AS the recent release of a new batch of files on UFOs in the US has attracted global attention this has put the spotlight on Thai movie entitled “Khao Kala”, which depicts beliefs about extraterrestrial beings and the biggest mystery of extraterrestrial life form in Southeast Asia, at the Cannes Film Festival.
This film is no longer just a story told in Thailand, as it has raised questions across the globe with VelCurve Studio, the distributor in Thailand and internationally, revealing that the film has received an overwhelmingly positive response, with pre-sales already completed in over 11 countries worldwide.
Mr. Keetawat Chinnakote, aka Boss, founder & CEO of VelCurve Studio, said this movie is poised to be a box office phenomenon soaring to international success, thanks to its unique plot, modern production design, and universally appealing mystery.
VelCurve Studio is also handling post-production, marketing, and public relations strategies to propel Thai cinema into the international arena.
As the international community is watching, this is a significant opportunity for Thai audiences to experience a film that has shaken the industry as far as France. This global attention confirms that “Khao Kala” is not just a trendy film, but a crucial chapter in the history of Thai beliefs, he said.
The movie, released on May 7 and directed by Thanadej Ramsomphop, aka Young Turk, and produced by Siwadol Chantanasevi, aka Toffee, from Plasitao Films, is based on a true story that took place in the Khao Kala area of Nakhon Sawan province, according to Wikipedia.
The film covers nine mysterious incidents involving elusive lights and unexplained sightings, linked to the experiences of individuals in the area which is known for its belief in UFOs and supernatural phenomena.
The movie examines both scientific possibilities and the concept of “mass hysteria,” blending spiritual beliefs, conspiracy theories, and scientific interpretations. Written in a new-age mystery documentary style, the film utilises footage and interviews as primary narrative elements to explore whether these phenomena are unexplained facts or the result of shared perceptions.
Furthermore, as Khao Kala has been mentioned in some media outlets as a significant location for reported UFO sightings, the film incorporates this aspect to connect with the cultural and religious context of Southeast Asia.
