THE military has closed the section of Yala – Betong road between Bannang Sata and Thanto districts after an arson attack on a truck late last night (June 26) followed by the killing of a defence corps volunteer in Pattani this morning, Amarin TV said.
The Internal Security Operations Command Region 4 Forward Command (ISOC Region 4 Forward Command) said at 11.10 p.m. last night insurgents set fire to a ten-wheel truck owned by Betong-Sanyajai Company (Betong Chua Lee Huat) near the curved bridge at Ban Khlong Nam Khun mosque in Bannang Sata district, completely destroying it.
The attack disrupted the traffic flow on this road until the authorities secured the area. However the public was urged to avoid the Bannang Sata – Thanto route until the burnt vehicle has been removed and the area inspected.
Those who have to travel through this area can use the alternative route via Ban Kasod – Bang Lang dam entrance to Ban Bue Su and then to Ban Puyud in Thanto district. Officials have been stationed along the route to give assistance.
Road users may also call Batu Tamong police station at 073-281960 for information and advice.
Additionally, at approximately 7.30 a.m. this morning, an unknown assailant used a 9mm handgun to ambush Mr. Abdullah Yama, a defence corps volunteer, at Yarang district, Pattani province, while he was returning from dropping his child off at a school killing him on the spot.
ISOC Region 4 Forward Command urged anyone with information about this fatal attack to contact its hotline 1341 all 24 hours a day.
