Rayong baby infected despite parents being Covid free

DOCTORS in Rayong province are puzzled how a five-month-old baby girl could have got infected with coronavirus even though her parents have tested negative for this feared diseased, Thai Rath newspaper reported today (Jan. 15, 2021).

Dr. Chaisith Thepchatree, director of Rayong Hospital, said the baby is not in serious condition and while she has started to get better, she has not fully recovered. Doctors are taking good care of her.

He added that it remains a mystery how the baby got infected and investigation continues.

The baby’s parents too are puzzled by her infection because they both have tested negative for this infection as have others close to her. They likewise are searching for an answer to how their baby got infected.

Meanwhile Rayong Governor Channa Iamsaeng said there were six more Covid cases in his province today taking the total 558 with 433 having been cured, Sanook.com reported.

It is Mueang Rayong where most cases are clustered with Ban Mablachakorn village in Chak Phong sub-district, Klaeng district, also worrying because a van driver had gone there and moved around quite a bit including attending a New Year countdown party and socializing with his friends

 However officials are proactively chasing people at risk of catching this infection to come in for a test.

Rayong is among five deep red provinces where coronavirus is raging with interprovicial travel banned till the end of this month. The other four are Chonburi, Samut Sakhon, Chanthaburi and Trat.
