OF the 3,277 coronavirus cases reported over the past 24 hours to this morning (June 12) 858 were in Bangkok with the capital remaining the worst affected in the ongoing health crisis, Siam Rath newspaper said.
The Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) also said that there were 29 fatalities in the past day with the majority of 17 occurring in Bangkok. This took the overall death toll to 1,431.
Of today’s batch of cases 3,248 were domestic with 1,770 emerging in the surveillance and service systems, 586 through proactive search in communities, 892 in prisons and detention centres while 29 arrived from overseas.
This took the cumulative confirmed total since the start of the pandemic to 193,105.
An additional 5,273 patients were cured taking total recoveries to 150,271. Altogether 41,403 are still undergoing treatment, of whom 15,032 are in hospitals and 26,371 in field hospitals, while 1,242 are in serious condition and 362 require ventilators.
Over the past 24 hours security forces also caught 256 people who sneaked across the border from neighbouring countries with 242 apprehended at the border and 11 found to be infected.
In the current wave of the Covid outbreak, from the starting point April 1 up to today June 12, the cumulative confirmed total is 164,242 cases with 122,845 patients cured and 41,403 still undergoing treatment while the death toll is 1,337.
Details of today’s 29 fatalities, with 17 being male and 12 female and aged between 30-92 years, is as follows:
– Bangkok, 17;
– Samut Prakan and Nonthaburi, 3 each,
– Pathum Thani, Chainat, Nakhon Sawan, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Phuket and Udon Thani, 1 each.
