Air Force’s second satellite launched

By Thai Newsroom Reporters

THE THAI AIR Force’s second satellite was successfully launched into space on July 1.

The Napa-2 earth observation satellite was launched aboard SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral in Florida at 02.31 a.m. local time.

The Napa-2 satellite launch is the air force’s second, following the Napa-1 satellite launched from French Guiana Launch Centre in French Guiana last September.

The military satellites were tasked with the collecting of data on Thailand’s climatic and environmental conditions, natural resources and other national security-related information.

While this is the Air Force’s second satellite, Thailand is not a new entrant in space. The country has a private-sector company, Thaicom, which has had several communications satellites in orbit since it was founded in 1991.
