Going to jail upon returning home is no big deal: Ex-PM Thaksin

By Thai Newsroom Reporters

FORMER PREMIER THAKSIN Shinawatra last evening (July 27) reassured he has resolutely intended to return to Thailand even if he might only be put behind bars.

Speaking online via The Room 44 channel, Thaksin repeatedly confirmed that he will certainly return home but declined to say how soon and that he has merely intended to help out with the pandemic situation about which he said he will readily provide consultations to the authorities.

”Whatever will be, will be. My life has brushed with death many times over. Going to jail is no big deal…If the time comes, I will immediately fly back home without pomp and circumstances. I’ll just board an airplane and I will not raise a problem even if I might then be put behind bars,” Thaksin said.

The ex-premier reassured that he has merely intended to return home to help out with the pandemic problems and that he will need no position in government to do so or expect anything in return.

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha earlier repeatedly called on the fugitive Thaksin to return home so he could face judicial process pertaining to the Supreme Court’s earlier verdict which has landed him 10 years in jail on misconduct charges.

Meanwhile, Thaksin commented Prayut was only good at acting as army chief and not as head of government, particularly given his allegedly poor handling of the pandemic situation.

The ex-premier suggested that three powerful figures in government step down, leaving the running of the country to others. He apparently referred to Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan, Interior Minister Anupong Paojinda and Prayut.

He said those powerful figures could quietly stay home since they already had much money to afford a very happy life with their families.
