Court endorses MP status for own party-dissolving lawmaker

By Thai Newsroom Reporters

OUTSPOKEN LAWMAKER PAIBUL Nititawan today (Oct. 20) survived a legal battle with help from the Constitutional Court to retain his MP status after he had dissolved his own People Reform Party in order to leave for Palang Pracharath Party two years ago.

The Constitutional Court judges ruled in majority consensus that Paibul lawfully remains as MP who did by no means violate any organic laws of the constitution by dissolving his own party and subsequently joining the ruling Palang Pracharath Party.

Paibul had made himself leader of People Reform Party and become its only MP in party-listed mode following the 2019 election.

He currently performs as a deputy Palang Pracharath party leader in charge of legal affairs and is largely viewed as one of the proteges of party leader/Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan.
