3 British tourists test positive for Omicron in Hua Hin

PRACHUAP KHIRI KHAN Governor Sathien Charoenruen held an urgent press conference this evening (Dec. 24) to disclose that three British tourists who have been in Thailand for three to four weeks tested positive for Omicron variant of coronavirus upon undergoing a repeat test to return home, Sanook.com said.

Dr. Wara Selawattanakul, Prachuap Khiri Khan Provincial Public Health Doctor, said the test result of the fourth British tourist is pending while the three others confirmed to be infected with Omicron are undergoing treatment at a private hospital in this seaside town.

Those planning to travel overseas from Hua Hin were urged to delay their journeys while the private sector organising New Year’s Eve festivities were urged to strictly follow Covid Free Setting guidelines.

These tourists came separately with a couple, a 51-year-old British woman and her 52-year-old husband, having landed at Phuket International Airport and stayed at a hotel there as part of the Sandbox scheme during Nov. 26-Dec.3. Later on Dec. 6 they flew to Bangkok landing at Suvarnabhumi Airport and then took a taxi to a hotel in Cha-am district.

The second group consists of a 53-year-old man, a 75-year-old man and a 47-year-old woman. They arrived at Phuket International Airport on Dec.3 then flew to Suvarnabhumi Airport on Dec.11 after which they travelled by a taxi to a luxury hotel in Hua Hin. They met up with the couple who came earlier at 8 p.m. that same evening.

They had all stayed at  SHA+ ( Safety and Health Administration) standard hotels and visited shopping malls, spent time on the beach, shopped at markets, dined at around five restaurants and visited other attractions at this seaside town as well as travelled on public transport.
