Another female protest leader released on bail

 

JUST a day after Ms. Panassaya Sitthichirawatanakul, or Rung, was granted an extension of her bail by two courts another female protest leader, Ms. Benja Apan, was also temporarily released, Thai Rath newspaper this evening (Jan. 14).

The Southern Bangkok Criminal Court issued an order granting bail to Benja who is faces charges under Section 112 of the Criminal Code, or the lese majeste law, over statements she read out in front of the German Embassy on October 26, 2020 and in front of the Sinothai Building on August 10, 2021.

At 6 p.m. this evening Benja was driven out of the the Central Women’s Correctional Institution in a black sedan with political activists and some members of the general public who had heard about her temporary release having gathered in front of the gate to welcome and encourage her.

They gave her flowers and shouted, “Benja fight on,” while she raised a three-finger salute before the car drove off.
