Bangkok hits new high as national Covid tally soars over 13,000

 

THE DAILY Covid count in Thailand soared to 13,182 cases and 24 deaths this morning (Feb. 9), from 10,398 cases and 17 deaths yesterday, with the tally in Bangkok likewise jumping to 2,757 from 1,897 the previous day, Naewna newspaper said.

The Public Health Ministry said the addition of the new batch of cases raised the cumulative confirmed total since the start of the pandemic to 2,531,051. 

Today’s 24 fatalities increased the death toll to 22,344.

Another 8,571 patients were cured taking total recoveries since the start of the pandemic to 2,409,877 while 98,830 are still undergoing treatment of whom 547 are in serious condition with 111 requiring oxygen.

Bangkok continued to top the list of ten worst-hit provinces today with 2,757 cases, a jump from 1,897 yesterday, with the daily total also spiking in Samut Prakan reaching 1,133, up from 983 yesterday.

Samut Sakhon province also saw an increase to 366 cases from 158 yesterday and moved to the 6th place; Ratchaburi 293, up from 137 yesterday, moving to the 8th place after not being among the top ten; Maha Sarakham 277, up from 162  yesterday, moving to the 9th place from 10th yesterday; and Chiang Mai 252, up from 212 yesterday, but dropping from the 7th to the 10th place.

The top 10 worst-hit provinces today are as follows:

1) Bangkok, 2,757;

2) Samut Prakan, 1,133;

3) Chonburi, 641;

4) Nonthaburi, 560;

5) Phuket, 425;

6) Samut Sakhon, 366;

7) Nakhon Ratchasima, 306;

8) Ratchaburi, 293;

9) Maha Sarakham, 277;

10) Chiang Mai 252.
