THERE was panic at Chang Phueak police station in Chiang Mai today (Feb.19) when a Chinese woman suddenly drew a knife and slashed a hotelier on his left forearm three times in a row over room rent, Sanook.com said.
The attack occurred in front Pol. Lt. Col. Khanong Kunarup, the investigating officer, who was interrogating the two of them to the shock of all policemen and people who were there at the time.
Police quickly locked up the Chinese woman, Ms. Su, 29, in a cell to calm her down before rescuers to took the wounded hotelier, Mr. Veethara Patikanon, to Lanna Hospital for medical treatment.
A young woman who had come to the police station to file a complaint said she saw the two of them talking to each other and then suddenly, without raising her voice, the woman stood up and slashed the hotelier in the arm with this shocking her as she did not think something like this would happen at a police station.
Pol. Lt. Col. Khanong said before the knife attack his station had been notified of a dispute over room rent at The Opium Hotel. When he got there he found that the two of them could not reach an agreement with Veethana saying that Su owed them around 10,000 baht in rent but she disputed that she did so.
Later Tourist Police questioned Su and found out that she has been in Thailand for over five years now and has stayed at this hotel for almost a year.
She claimed that hotel staff had surreptitiously poisoned the drinking water on several occasions leading to her getting hot flashes and her face turning red.
She added that she was scared of people around her attacking her and had to protect herself.
Initially, police have sent her for a drug test and mental health assessment before filing assault charges against her.
