Skipper admits not knowing how to pilot a speedboat

THE SKIPPER of the speedboat where actress Pataratida Patcharawirapong, or Tangmo Nida, fell off and drowned in Chao Phraya river last month has admitted to police that he did not know how to pilot the vessel but wanted to try doing so, Amarin TV said this evening (Mar. 8).

Pol. Maj. Gen Udon Yomcharoen, deputy chief of Provincial Police Region 1, and Pol. Maj Gen Yingyot Thepchamnong, the police spokesman, said Mr. Paiboon Srikanchananan, or Robert or Bird, had confessed that he did not know how to steer a speedboat and was going at about eight knots when the vessel suddenly jerked.

This led to the Tangmo Nida falling overboard at the rear starboard after urinating and trying to get up.

National Police Chief Pol. Gen. Suwat Jangyodsuk has also ordered that the boat trip be reenacted again because a new issue of drinking alcoholic beverages had arisen.

This occurred after a search of the house of Mr. Nithat Keeratisuthisathorn, or Job, found some alcoholic beverages believed to be left over from the boat trip while all five of Tangmo Nida’s friends admitted to drinking that night. That they threw wine glasses into the river was because they feared being charged with piloting a boat while drunk.

Pol. Maj. Gen. Udon also said there is no evidence that Tangmo Nida had been hired as an entertainer during the boat trip.

Pol. Maj Gen Yingyot mentioned that evidence so far points to negligence leading to death and not murder. There is also no evidence of drug use both by the deceased and those who were with her with this ruling out additional charges. However to reassure the public another forensic examination is being conducted.
