Woman MP could lose MP status due to false asset claims

By Thai Newsroom Reporters

PALANG PRACHARATH MP Pareena Kraikupt might probably lose her MP status in foreseeable future due to alleged falsifications of her wealth which she had earlier filed.

The National Anti-Corruption Commission today (Mar.22) concluded that the woman lawmaker of Ratchaburi had doctored some of her claimed assets which have been found as non-existent.

Pareena had earlier claimed to have loaned 7.7 million baht to a mayor in her constituency but the anti-graft agency has found out the loan money did not exist and had claimed to possess an estimated six million baht worth of Buddhist amulets without literally owning them.

Amidst the alleged falsifications, the NACC has resolved to forward the case against the Palang Pracharath MP over to Supreme Court judges handling criminal lawsuits against politicians, and given the probability of her being finally found guilty as charged, she would be immediately deprived of her MP status and be immediately prohibited from engaging in political activities for a number of years.

Since last year, Pareena’s legislative duties have been suspended at the order of the Supreme Court pending the proceedings of a separate lawsuit filed against her on charges of encroaching upon a forest reserve to open a chicken farm in Chom Bueng district which is part of her constituency in the western province.

She has been largely known for usually speaking in defence of Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha inside and outside of parliament.
