Move to transfer 3 airports to AOT gathers steam

THE TRANSPORT Ministry will be tabling the transfer of Krabi, Udon Thani and Buriram airports from the Department of Airports to Airports of Thailand Plc (AOT) to the Cabinet for approval next month, INN News said today (Mar. 26).

Transport Minister Saksayam Chidchob said if this approval is given AOT will start operating Krabi and Udon Thani airports in August this year and Buriram airport in September.

This transfer is a strategic move based on the development of the country’s airport system as a whole.

It was found that allowing AOT to manage these three airports instead of the Department of Airports would help upgrade them from a local airport to a regional airport or secondary hub airport in future.
