Land dept moving against Thanathorn’s mum over encroachment

DEPUTY Interior Minister Niphon Boonyamanee said this morning (Mar. 29) investigation into allegations that Mrs. Somphon Juangroongruangkit, the mother of Progressive Movement chairman Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit, encroached on a reserved forest in Ratchaburi province will be concluded in a day or two, Matichon newspaper said.

Information on these allegations gathered by the Land Development Department and the Royal Forest Department had reached the Land Department which is now wrapping up the findings.

Questioned whether initially there were grounds for an encroachment into the reserved forest, Niphon said most of it allegedly appeared to be so but some plots overlapped each other.

Asked whether the next step would be revocation of the title deeds, Niphon said the Land Department had to proceed according to the law. If the investigation confirmed that the land is in the reserved forest the director-general of this department had the authority to do so.

The conclusion would be announced in a day or two because information from the Royal Forest Department reached the Land Department on Mar. 25.
