PM orders immediate hospitalisation of 608 group Covid patients

 

PRIME Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha today (Apr. 1) ordered all relevant departments to adjust their screening system and immediately hospitalise Covid patients from the 608 group, that is the elderly over sixty years age, those suffering from chronic diseases and young children, without waiting to see how they respond to symptomatic treatment, Naewna newspaper said.

Ms. Ratchada Thanadirek, a deputy spokesperson of the Prime Minister’s Office, said this step was taken because recently majority of the Covid patients and deaths have been from the 608 group. For example, of today’s tally of 92 Covid fatalities, 86 were from this group, of 93 percent.

This morning the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA)  said there were 28,379 Covid cases and 92 deaths over the past 24 hours with 28,317 being domestic while 62 overseas arrivals tested positive.

This takes the cumulative confirmed total since Jan. 1 to 1,433,291.

Another 23,843 patients were cured taking total recoveries since Jan. 1 to 1,211,796 while 251,214 are undergoing treatment with  1,828 hospitalised. The hospitalisation rate works out to be an average of 24 patients per province while bed occupancy rate is 29.4 percent.

Meanwhile the top ten worst-hit provinces today are as follows:

1) Bangkok, 3,350 cases;

2) Chonburi, 1,352;

3) Nakhon Si Thammarat, 1,259;

4) Samut Prakan, 933;

5) Samut Sakhon, 854;

6) Songkhla, 744;

7) Khon Kaen, 726;

8) Nonthaburi, 716;

9) Ratchaburi, 701;

10) Nakhon Pathom, 698.
