THERE was chaos at the crowded Mueang Nonthaburi police station, which is investigating the drowning of actress Pataratida Patcharawirapong, or Tangmo Nida, in Chao Phraya river during a speedboat trip in February, after the superintendent tested positive for Covid-19 via an antigen kit yesterday (Apr. 4), TV Channel 7 said.
Dozens of people, including journalists and policemen, have previously got infected with coronavirus while covering and investigating this case with this station packed everyday with a whole army of journalists.
At around 2.30 p.m. just as Pol. Col. Jaturon Anurakbandit, this station’s superintendent, and the investigators were collecting documentary evidence to file charges against two of five friends of the late actress who were with her on the speedboat when she drowned, Ms. Idsarin Juthasuksawat, or Gatick, her manager, and Mr. Nithat Keeratisuthisathorn, or Job, he decided to undergo an antigen test because he had a sore throat since morning and got a positive result.
He then assigned Pol. Lt. Col. Samut Ketiya, the deputy superintendent for investigation, to do so instead while he himself left to be quarantined and further tested.
Idsarin, who came to the station with Mr. Sira Jenjaka, a former MP for Palang Pracharat Party, had confessed to issuing a false statement, stating that she did not herself see Tangmo Nida urinate at the stern of the speedboat.
Nithat faces two charges with one based on discarding objects into the river and the other helping others escape penalty.
Meanwhile the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) said this morning there were 21,088 Covid cases and 91 deaths over the past 24 hours with this taking the cumulative confirmed total since the start of the year to 1,534,140 and from the onset of the pandemic 3,757,575.
Another 27,610 patients were cured taking total recoveries to since Jan. 1 to 1,313,333 and since the start of the pandemic 3,481,918 while 250,145 patients are still undergoing treatment.
Today’s 91 fatalities raised the death toll to 25,603.
