Man held for bashing Russian tourist’s head in Chonburi

CHONBURI police have arrested a Thai man on the charges of hitting and wounding a Russian woman tourist on the head and dragging into a forest at a reservoir while she was jogging on Thursday night, Naewna newspaper said this evening (May 20).

Ms. Elena Yzulkova, 38, came out from Map Prachan Reservoir forest soaking in blood and asked local residents for help. Just then a Good Samaritan passing by on a motorcycle rescued her and took her to the hospital.

Pol. Col. Dumrong Iampairote. superintendent of Nong Prue police station, said investigators from his station and Chonburi provincial police tracked down the suspect, Mr. Kantheephop Thanachotsomboon, 37, after getting a surveillance camera clip showing him driving his pickup truck away from the reservoir and 12 minutes later the wounded Russian woman coming out with blood flowing down her head.

The suspect confessed to attacking the tourist after lengthy  interrogation but his motive for doing so is still not known.

Police had got a warrant for his arrest from Pattaya Provincial Court on two counts, assaulting another person and committing indecent acts.
