PRIME MINISTER Prayut Chan-o-cha presided over the opening ceremony of “Smart Pier Smart Connection” between Tha Chang and Sathorn piers today (June 8) but to the surprise of participants Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittiphan was not on hand to welcome him even though this is something the city’s governor usually does, Naewna newspaper said.
Upon being asked why Chadchart was not present, Prayut said, “I don’t know, maybe he is busy.”
The prime minister then turned to Transport Minister Saksayam Chidchob and said he had a plan in his head for the benefit of everyone and wondered why people liked to anger him.
Reporters then asked him whether he had read the comments on the webpage “Prayut Chan-o-cha” and he replied that people were free to use this channel but they should ask good questions about good things with some frequently dragging it down.
After that he came down and mingled with the people with some of them wearing red shirts giving him red roses and telling him to fight on.
A group of disabled people mentioned to the premier that while this new service was more convenient for them to use, they would like better links to other modes of transportation.
Saksayam told them that the government was already working on linking trains, boats and buses.
It was later reported that Chadchart had attended a meeting of Bangkok Communicable Disease Committee after which said it had been decided to ask the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) tomorrow to approve the removal of face masks in open areas and places where one-metre distance could be maintained but not at crowded places like markets and stadiums.
Moreover those still at risk particularly the 608 group, that is the elderly over sixty years of age, those suffering from chronic diseases and pregnant women, and those not fully vaccinated would have to continue wearing them.
Chadchart added that right now the face mask mandate remained in place and it depended on CCSA, which had the authority to order BMA on this issue, whether this relaxation would be allowed in the capital.
