POTJAMAN NA Pombejra, former spouse of former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, strongly prefers that their youngest daughter, Paetongtarn Shinawatra, not run for head of a post-election government.
During yesterday’s Care Clubhouse live podcast, Thaksin said his ex-spouse preferred that Paetongtarn only perform as head of “Pheu Thai Family” and spearhead electoral campaigns of Pheu Thai Party without practically offering herself as candidate for head of government in the next election.
“Ing (Paetongtarn’s nickname) will have to win the heart of her mother who strongly preferred she not run for head of government,” said Thaksin, also known as Tony Woodsome.
The former premier who has reportedly divided his time between residing in self-exile in Dubai and globetrotting said Pheu Thai Party will be more or less expected to send a trio of candidates for head of a post-election government as had been the case in the 2019 election.
Thaksin declined to confirm if Paetongtarn will finally be one of the three Pheu Thai contenders for the top post of government and repeatedly commented that it will ultimately depend on his daughter to decide for herself apart from an effort to talk her mother into changing her mind about that matter.
“Politics has become such a relentless, belligerent activity that Ing’s mother has been very concerned about her daughter and her granddaughter,” Thaksin said.
However, Potjaman paid a surprise visit to Chiang Mai and joined Paetongtarn and other Pheu Thai figures on their electoral campaign trail over the last weekend.
Thaksin said his ex-spouse had tried in vain to keep him from jumping onto the political bandwagon in the first place over two decades ago.
