THE ELECTION Commission announced today (Sept. 16) that as of Sept. 24 the House of Representatives would have 180 days left of its current term and political parties could start campaigning for the next general election from that day onwards, Sanook.com said.
According to Section 68 of the Organic Act campaigning can start when the House of Representatives has 180 days left till the election day. However should the House be dissolved then campaigning can start thenceforth till the election day.
The Election Commission added that campaigning must be conducted in accordance with Section 73 of this law which prohibits vote buying or giving voters something of monetary value.
If the House is not dissolved then the next general election should take place in March 2023.
Several parties have already started getting ready for the next general election with one of them being Pheu Thai Party which has held rallies in its Northern and Northeastern strongholds.
Recently coalition partners in the government have started criticising each other’s performance. For example members of Bhumjaithai Party blasted the Democrat Party over the price of rubber.
