PRIME Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said while travelling from Chengdu, Sichuan, to Beijing at 3.45 p.m. local time (an hour ahead of Thailand) today (July 19) that four major Chinese tech companies are ready to invest over 70 billion baht in Thailand creating tens of thousands of jobs, PPTVHD36 said.
This follows successful discussion between the Thai delegation and executives of these four major Chinese tech companies yesterday with Chinese investors, particularly in high-tech industries, having great confidence in Thailand as their production base and innovation workshop.
These four big companies are focusing optical transceivers to support data centre businesses, semiconductors, and microchips for high-speed communication, as well as continuous expansion of electric vehicle (EV) production capacity.
As this big investment is expected to create tens of thousands of new jobs, the government is now prioritising upskilling with Thai workers receiving direct knowledge and modern technology transfer from these leading companies, adding long-term value to the Thai industrial sector.
Anutin added that the key reason these investors have chosen Thailand is their confidence in the infrastructure, including transportation and utilities, which facilitates the production of various components outside of China, in order to address geopolitical challenges.
When asked about government support, Anutin said that the government had assured the investors about Board of Investment’s “Thailand FastPass” policy, a one-stop service to expedite the approval and licensing processes.
Questioned whether Thai businesspeople who had invested in China had any proposals to discuss with the Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang tomorrow, Anutin replied that most of them are operating in agricultural, food, power plant, and service sectors, such as hotel chains. He had met dozens of Thai executives and business owners in China who confirmed that they have received excellent support from the Chinese government.
Anutin had on Friday paid a courtesy call on Chinese President Xi Jinping at Xijiao State Guest Hotel in Shanghai, as part of his official visit to the country.
Deputy Prime Minister-cum-Foreign Affairs Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow also joined the Prime Minister in his meeting with the Chinese President.
Both sides exchanged views on Thai-Chinese relations and reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening the Thailand–China Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership. They also underscored their shared determination to advance cooperation at all levels and across all frameworks to deliver tangible outcomes for the mutual benefit of their peoples.
In addition, both sides reaffirmed the importance of promoting cooperation to advance regional interests and peace, particularly in the areas of green economy, science, technology, and the digital economy.
Anutin also commended China’s role in promoting multilateralism under the leadership of President Xi Jinping while Xi appreciated Anutin’s participation in the opening ceremony of the World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) at his invitation.
