Palang Pracharath Party blasted for using welfare cards to wins votes

By Thai Newsroom Reporters

THE PALANG PRACHARATH Party was today (Sept. 19) taken to task for using state welfare cards in “utterly disgusting” fashion to muster popularity among constituents in the provinces well ahead of the next general election.

Deputy Pheu Thai Party secretary-general Khunakorn Preechachanachai alleged that the largest coalition partner had obviously resorted to the distribution of state welfare cards, better known as cards for the poor, to some 20 million people nationwide as part of their electoral campaign conducted in “utterly disgusting” fashion as far as the taxpayer’s money is concerned.

His comments closely followed the sighting of a gigantic roadside sign featuring an enlarged picture of caretaker Prime Minister-cum-Palang Pracharath leader Prawit Wongsuwan and the party’s logo in Nongbua Lamphu where he officially visited over the weekend.

Khunakorn said the popularity-wooing attempt on the part of the ruling Palang Pracharath Party with the use of the state welfare cards in return for votes in the next general election would merely be considered by constituents as “utterly disgusting and inappropriate.”

Given the fact that the total number of people entitled to the state welfare cards has risen from 13 million to 20 million in a four-year time, the Palang Pracharath-led coalition government’s anti-poverty measures have obviously been riddled with error and failure.

The Highway Department was alleged of turning a blind eye to the illicit setting up of such gigantic vote-wooing billboards on a roadside parcel of public land without prior permission whilst Digital Economy & Society Minister Chaiwut Tanakhamanusorn contended that not only his Palang Pracharath Party but all others have erected roadside campaign signs everywhere throughout the country.
