Prawit dismisses fears of pro-Prayut vs anti-Prayut protesters clashing

By Thai Newsroom Reporters

CARETAKER PRIME MINISTER Prawit Wongsuwan today (Sept. 29) dismissed fears that one group of street demonstrators might possibly clash head-on with another over a court-suspended Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha outside Government House or elsewhere tomorrow.

The caretaker premier who concurrently heads the ruling Palang Pracharath Party referred to the group of farmers who have come from the provinces and been peacefully gathering outside Government House calling for government assistance with respect to their agricultural occupations and legal access to forest land and water resources and the other group of demonstrators awaiting tomorrow’s ruling of the Constitutional Court on Prayut’s eight-year tenure.

Prawit categorically denied that the farmer protesters might probably be used as human buffers against the anti-Prayut demonstrators in the vicinity of Government House in case that the latter might not be satisfied with tomorrow’s court ruling.

Prawit apparently ruled out possibilities of street violence between the pro-Prayut and anti-Prayut protesters taking place anywhere due to a court verdict on the army chief-turned-premier’s eight-year rule.

The caretaker premier said he himself has found no cause for concern over the legal battle surrounding Prayut’s eight-year rule and being finally settled by the Constitutional Court as to whether it may already have ended as concluded by the Pheu Thai-led opposition bloc who had earlier petitioned for court judgement.

Apart from policemen currently on stand-by in and around the Government House premises on Phitsanulok road, others will be put on alert in and around the Constitutional Court premises on Chaeng Wattana road where groups of anti-Prayut demonstrators are expected tomorrow.
