Big plastic factory ablaze in Songkhla, 2 workers injured

A LARGE plastic factory in Hat Yai district of southern Songkhla province caught fire at noon today (Oct. 2) injuring two workers as it spread rapidly and engulfed the entire plant, Amarin TV said.

Thick black smoke spread from the fire that raged violently with plastic being very flammable.

Because the blaze started within the factory at noon the hundreds of workers were leaving the building for their lunch break which reduced the number of injuries.

Ban Phru Municipality plus Hat Yai and Na Mom district offices quickly mobilised 10 fire engines to extinguish the fire.

It was not initially clear what sparked the fire but it was suspected that an electrical short circuit triggered it.
