GOVERNMENT Savings Bank yesterday (Oct. 4) agreed to pay 2.2 million baht compensation to the owners of a house their contractor had wrongfully seized and renovated plus put a for sale sign upfront and in doing so destroying many objects of sentimental value, Sanook.com said.
Mr. Ronnarong Kaewpetch, chairman of the Network to Reclaim Justice and representative of the couple demanding this compensation, said officials of this bank met them yesterday to negotiate compensation for the damage and agreed to pay the full amount with this to be handed over on Friday Oct. 7, 2022.
They also apologised for the error and gave the couple a gift basket.
Ronnarong later posted this message on his Facebook page: “Government Savings Bank paying 2.2 million baht compensation, this is a really expensive for sale sign.”
The bank officials had earlier refused to pay the compensation saying the error was not intentional. They had also mentioned that some of the assets were kept in another location but others had been destroyed, such as clothes, old books, pictures and collectables, including their children’s belongings which have sentimental value and cannot be replaced.
