A CAR BOMB exploded at the police flats within the compound of Mueang Narathiwat police station today (Nov. 22) leading to one police officer being killed and many others injured, Naewna newspaper said.
The deceased policeman was identified as Pol. Capt. Sutthirak Phanthaniya, a deputy traffic inspector, with five other injured policemen rushed to Narathiwat Ratchanakarin Hospital.
Police immediately blocked off the surrounding area to prevent more bombs going off. Fire engines rushed in to put out the blaze with this being brought under control within 20 minutes.
Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit and forensic officers then came in to inspect the bombed area and gather evidence.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the bomber, who was dressed as a policeman, had driven the pickup truck packed with explosives and parked it at police flats.
