THE Justice Ministry today (Nov. 26) said an airplane that belongs to a company in which arrested Chinese grey capitalist Mr. Chaiyanat Kornchaiyanana, alias Tu Hao, holds a stake has been seized, Matichon newspaper said.
Officials from the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) had earlier been unable to seize this airplane, parked at Ban Bo Fai Airport, Hua Hin district, Prachuap Khiri Khan province, after the inspection officer found that it was not registered in the name of Chaiyanat, who surrendered earlier this week after being slapped with drug charges, Sub.-Lt. Thanakrit Jit-Areerat, Justice Minister Somsak Thepsuthin’s secretary said.
However ONCB later found that Chaiyanat is a shareholder of the company that owns this airplane and seized it.
ONCB is also checking evidence submitted by former MP Chuvit Kamonvisit indicating that the suspect owns several properties, such as hotels and land, worth over a billion baht.
Meanwhile ONCB secretary-general Mr. Wichai Chaimongkol revealed that his team had checked around 40 bank accounts in Chaiyanat’s name but found that they only held around 800,000 to 900,000 baht in total.
However the turnover in these accounts and their link to a financial network are being investigated.
Assets held by Chaiyanat’s wife are also being frozen and if the couple are found guilty of drug charges then their assets will be seized and auctioned off .
