Grab launches “Call a tuk-tuk via app” service in Phuket

WITH over 10 million tourists having come to Thailand this year after the government relaxed travel measures, it has led to Grab Thailand expanding its business in Phuket with the introduction of “Call a tuk-tuk via app” service on the popular island, Matichon newspaper said this morning (Dec, 13).

Mr. Worachat Lakkhanarot, country head of Grab Thailand, said his ride-hailing company hopes to recruit around a hundred tuk-tuk driver-partners next year with this not only helping promote tourism in Phuket but will also stimulate the economy by generating income for the local people.

“Grab aims to promote a standardised ride-hailing service through its application in Phuket, both in terms of service quality, price and safety including encouraging local people to legally use their own vehicles to provide service to generate additional income,” he said.

“We recently also encouraged public taxi operators such as tuk-tuk drivers to use the Grab application as another channel to reach passengers. This increases the opportunity to earn income.”

The ride-hailing group plans to cooperate with government agencies and partners in organising activities to build up confidence in Grab driver-partners.
