Elderly woman freezes to death in Korat

WITH THE mercury having dipped it led to an elderly woman freezing to death in the basement of her wooden house in Nakhon Ratchasima (Korat) province, Amarin TV said today (Dec. 15).

Mr. Taweesak Panklang, deputy chief of Ban Rat Tambon Administration Organisation (OrBorTor),  Soeng Sang district, was informed of a woman having died from exposure to the cold with temperature last night having dropped to 13 degrees Celsius and quickly went to investigate together with the village headman.

At the old wooden house built on stilts they found Mrs Porn, around 80 years old, lying dead on a bed in the basement with a yellow blanket covering her.

A neighbour, Mrs Suk, told them that at 8 a.m. this morning she saw Porn’s husband sitting next to his wife trying to wake her up. She called out to ask whether everything was okay but he said wife’s legs were frozen and that he could only lift her arms.

She quickly went to check and found the Porn was no longer breathing but her body was still warm so she must have died less than an hour earlier.

Porn previously slept in the house but after she fell down the stairs and hurt herself her husband told her to sleep in the basement because she was mostly alone as he was frequently travelling to work in various districts.

He had just returned the previous day and Mrs. Suk told him his wife had been sick for the past two to three days and to take her to the hospital but overnight she froze to death.
