Palang Pracharath to get at least 150 MPs in next election: Santi

By Thai Newsroom Reporters

THE RULING PALANG PRACHARATH is expecting to get no less than 150 MPs in the next general election, confirmed party secretary-general Santi Prompat today (Jan.3).

Santi who concurrently acts as deputy finance minister said the Palang Pracharath, headed by Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan, will likely see no less than 150 contestants running in both constituency-based and party-listed modes under the largest coalition partner’s banners elected to the House of Representatives.

That compared to a total of 115 MPs which the Palang Pracharath obtained in the 2019 election after which Prawit’s camp successfully named Prayut Chan-o-cha as partisan candidate for prime minister.

Nevertheless, the Palang Pracharath secretary-general did not either confirm or deny whether MPs of any contesting parties may as well endorse the naming of Prawit as partisan contender for prime minister other than those of his own camp.

Prawit who had apparently been a major force behind the making of Prayut as head of government following the previous election has reportedly planned to take his turn this time by running for prime minister himself in competition with the current one who will definitely vie to prolong his rule for two more years under the Ruam Thai Sang Chart banners, among others.

However, a contesting party is legally obliged to get a minimum of 25 MPs to eligibly name a partisan contender for prime minister.
