Phuket residents ask House panel to probe Interior Permanent Secretary

PHUKET RESIDENTS together with Phuket Senior Teachers Club today (Jan. 4) submitted a letter to the House Committee on Prevention and Suppression of Corruption and Misconduct to investigate Interior Permanent Secretary Suthipong Julcharoen and remove him from this post, TV Channel 7 said.

The residents and senior teachers said Suthipong held a video conference with governors across the nation on Dec. 27 during which he ordered Phuket Governor Narong Woonciew to withdraw from hosting the Specialised Expo in 2028.

In criticising the Phuket governor the Interior permanent secretary pointed to shortcomings in managing the island’s environment.

He also said that he was sending a letter to international parties informing them that Phuket should not host this expo because the island’s officials had not taken care of the environment well.

This indicated non-compliance with national policy, he had said.

The petitioners mentioned that the Interior permanent secretary’s action had severely hurt the feelings of Phuket people and that he should be removed from this post.
