Former senior Pattaya official’s nephew surrenders after killing British engineer

THE NEPHEW of a former deputy mayor of Pattaya surrendered to police today (Jan. 7) after shooting to death a British engineer in a road rage row, TV Channel 7 said.

Provincial Police Region 2’s investigation team joined Huay Yai police station in arresting Mr. Apichat (surname withheld), 32, after being contacted by Mr. Pattana Bunsawat, Pattaya’s former deputy mayor, that his nephew wanted to surrender after killing Mr. Neil Roger, 71.

In surrendering the suspect also handed over a 9mm pistol.

The British engineer was found shot dead by the roadside in Soi Khao Makok 1, Nong Yai subdistrict, Bang Lamung district, Chonburi province, just one day after returning from the UK to Thailand.

Apichart told police that the British man was riding his motorcycle behind his car. He then turned to go to a housing estate but this annoyed the deceased man who blared the horn, cursed him and then followed him and bashed his car.

Apichart said this angered him and he then pulled out his pistol and shot the British man four times and escaped but was persuaded by elders in his family to surrender.
