Prawit to be sole Palang Pracharath candidate for PM: Santi

PALANG PRACHARATH SECRETARY-GENERAL Santi Prompat said today (Jan.10) party leader Prawit Wongsuwan is likely to be the sole Palang Pracharath contestant for head of a post-election government.

Santi who concurrently performs as deputy finance minister suggested Prawit who, he said, has always been devoted to working in the course of the country’s and people’s interests deserved the opportunity to contest the general election as the sole Palang Pracharath contender for prime minister whilst nobody else should be named a second or third candidate for the top post of government under the tickets of the largest coalition partner.

The Palang Pracharath secretary-general’s comments apparently followed earlier speculation that Prawit’s camp might have a trio of partisan contestants for prime minister including the party boss himself.

Prawit has remained non-committal as to whether his ruling party may finally name a trio of partisan candidates for prime minister or only himself as the sole partisan contender and only said the matter is yet to be decided upon by the party’s executive board later this month.

Former police chief Chakthip Chaijinda had been earlier speculated to emerge as one of the trio of Palang Pracharath candidates for prime minister.

Meanwhile, Santi denied the Palang Pracharath rank and file may have adopted “fraternal” ties with the Ruam Thai Sang Chart either for the time being or beyond electoral campaigns or during the future setting up of a post-election government.

The brand-new Ruam Thai Sang Chart has reportedly intended to name Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha who has already applied for partisan membership as the sole partisan contestant for head of a post-election government.

According to the Palang Pracharath secretary-general, Prawit and Prayut would never develop a mutual conflict over the race to power though the former had managed to name the latter as the sole Palang Pracharath candidate for prime minister in the 2019 election.
