Pheu Thai MPs visiting Thaksin, Yingluck in Singapore

A NUMBER OF PHEU THAI MPs are quietly visiting former prime ministers Thaksin Shinawatra and Yingluck Shinawatra in Singapore, partisan sources said today (Feb.10).

Thaksin and Yingluck have arrived for medical checkups and leisure in Singapore where they are scheduled to stay until next Thursday, they said.

Those Pheu Thai MPs and others are visiting Thaksin and Yingluck during their one-week stay in the island republic before the former premiers return to Dubai where they have been residing in self-exile.

Speculated to be raised for discussion between the former premiers and their guests are topics involving the upcoming general election in which Thaksin, viewed as de facto Pheu Thai leader, has earlier forecast a landslide victory for his party.

He earlier predicted the Pheu Thai and a few like-minded camps will win as many as 350 out of a total of 500 MP seats combined so they could potentially outvote the 250 unelected senators in the picking of head of a post-election government from among partisan contenders.

A partisan contestant for prime minister needs yea votes from a simple majority of MPs and senators combined, or at least 376.

However, it remains to be seen who will be a third person among a trio of Pheu Thai partisan contenders for prime minister amidst speculation it might probably be former foreign minister Surakiart Sathirathai.

The two Pheu Thai candidates for prime minister earlier proclaimed are Thaksin’s youngest daughter Paetongtarn Shinawatra and real estate tycoon Settha Taweesin, known as personally close to Yingluck.
