Two fake doctors nabbed in raid of bogus clinics

TWO fake doctors were caught while treating patients at their respective unlicenced clinics with one being in Bangkok and the other Pathum Thani, Thai Rath newspaper said today (Mar. 19).

Pol. Maj. Gen. Anan Nanasombat, head of Consumer Protection Police, and Pol. Col. Suphot Phumyam, head of Consumer Protection Police Division 4, led a police team in first raiding Rom Klao Medical Clinic on Rat Phatthana road, Khlong Song Ton Nun subdistrict, Lat Krabang district, where they found Mr. Rattaphum (surname withheld), 51, treating some patients without a licence to practise medicine nor a licence to open a medical facility.

The suspect told police that he had 13 years of experience working in a hospital before going abroad to study medicine. However he did not complete his studies but because he loved the medical profession he returned to Thailand and opened this clinic three months ago and ran it by pretending to be a fully-trained medical doctor.

He was charged with practising medicine without a licence, operating a bogus clinic and selling traditional medicine without authorisation.

All medical equipment, unauthorised medicine and medical records of 30 patients were seized.

The second bogus clinic raided was in Soi Thai Thani 6, Navanakorn Industrial Estate road, Khlong Nueng subdistrict, Khlong Luang district, Pathum Thani province, where Mr. Kritsaran (surname withheld), 36, was arrested while pretending to be a fully-trained doctor and treating patients at this unlicenced medical facility.

The suspect admitted that he does not have a licence to practise medicine having graduated with a bachelor’s degree in medicine from abroad and is currently undergoing training at a state hospital while preparing to sit for an exam to get a professional licence.

He was charged with working as a medical doctor and selling modern medicine without licence.
