Almost 4,800 running for constituency seats, nearly 1,900 in party-listed mode

A TOTAL OF 4,781 PEOPLE have applied to run for MP in constituency-based mode whilst 1,899 others have applied to compete for MP in party-listed mode for the May 14 general election.

Election Commission secretary-general Sawaeng Boonmee announced last night (Apr.7) the total of 4,781 candidates are running under the tickets of 70 parties for a total of 400 constituencies in all regions of the country.

Of that total of constituency-based contestants, 498 are running for MP of Bangkok which will have a total of 33 MPs, accounting for the largest number among those vying in all provinces nationwide, according to the polling agency’s secretary-general.

Meanwhile, another 1,899 candidates are running for a total of 100 party-listed MPs under the banners of 67 parties in the nationwide election, Sawaeng confirmed.

A total of 63 persons are named candidates for prime minister running under the tickets of 43 parties, he said.

The application to run for MP closed at the end of business yesterday, following five consecutive days to apply for constituency-based mode and four consecutive days for party-listed mode.
