Foreigners rounded up in Buriram crackdown

 

A CRACKDOWN by Immigration police in northeastern Buriram province during March 27-April 10 led to six foreigners being rounded up for overstaying their visa, Naewna newspaper said today (Apr. 11).

Acting on the orders of Pol.Maj.Gen. Phanthana Nuchanart, deputy chief of the Immigration Bureau, to prevent and suppress crime during Songkran festival, Pol. Maj. Gen. Ketchakat Nilpradap, head of Immigration Division 4, led his team in mounting raids to round up foreign suspects.

Six foreigners were detained for overstaying their visa with two of them being fined, one was arrested for working without a permit, four were held for illegal entry and 10 others on online gambling, carrying firearms and narcotics charges.

Foreigners caught breaking the law in Thailand and meet the criteria of being a prohibited person will be blacklisted, Immigration police warned.
