Move Forward to shun Pheu Thai-led govt if Palang Pracharath is included: Pita

By Thai Newsroom Reporters

THE MOVE FORWARD will definitely not join a government which could possibly be led by the Pheu Thai and consist of the likes of the Palang Pracharath after the May 14 general election, said Move Forward leader Pita Limjaroenrat today (Apr.20).

Responding to the possibility of the Pheu Thai becoming core of government, given most MPs to win in the nationwide election and added by Palang Pracharath MPs, Pita said the Move Forward would certainly choose to be part of an opposition bloc instead.

The Move Forward is constantly, resolutely opposed to military regimes such as the one run by former army chief Prayut Chan-o-cha following the 2014 coup or the one still led by the ex-coup leader and consisting of the Palang Pracharath following the 2019 election, according to the Move Forward leader.

The Move Forward leader’s comments followed those recently made by Palang Pracharath leader Prawit Wongsuwan to the extent that no possibilities be simply ruled out about the setting up of a post-election government, no matter what the contesting parties may have said during their electoral campaigns whilst his party is looking to “step beyond conflict.”

Speculation has risen to the extent that a Pheu Thai/Palang Pracharath alliance might finally be formed after the May 14 election, given a decisive support from most of the total of 500 MPs being on the Pheu Thai side plus yea votes from some of the 250 senators personally loyal to the Palang Pracharath boss.

Nevertheless, Pita said the Move Forward might probably become partner of a Pheu Thai-led coalition government on condition that it do without the Palang Pracharath and that the Bhumjaithai be denied the posts of public health and transport ministers – the major portfolios of cabinet being currently held by Bhumjaithai leader Anutin Charnvirakul and Bhumjaithai secretary-general Saksayam Chidchob respectively.

Meanwhile, the Move Forward leader who is contesting as sole partisan contender for prime minister forecast that his liberal camp will get no less than 100 MPs in both constituency-based and party-listed modes since, he said, the party has not only set public welfare and economic boosting policies for people in Bangkok and major provinces but those in the rural countryside nationwide as well.

Compared to 81 MPs won by the court-dissolved Future Forward in the previous election, the Move Forward is predicted to get 100-plus MPs from the May 14 election, Pita said.

The Move Forward is practically a reincarnation of the Future Forward earlier led by Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit who is currently performing as a campaign aide to Pita’s party.
