A RUSSIAN MAN fell from the third floor of a car park building at a well-known Phuket shopping mall and died on the spot this morning (Apr.27) with surveillance camera clips showing he went in there alone, Matichon newspaper said.
At 8.20 a.m. Pol. Lt. Wuthichai Chanphai, a deputy inspector at Vichit police station in Mueang district, was notified of the Russian man, identified as Mr. Roman Chubenin, 32, having plunged to his death at the shopping centre and quickly rushed there with a medical team from Vachira Phuket Hospital and Phuket Charity Foundation volunteers.
The Russian man was found lying face-up in a pool of blood at the wide courtyard in front of the car park building with the area having been cordoned off.
An examination of his body showed that he had broken his right shoulder and fractured his skull but there were no signs of abuse with the medical team then taking his body to their hospital for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
Surveillance camera clips showed that the deceased had walked into the parking lot alone and then climbed up to the third floor which is not part of the shopping centre. He had been sitting with his back towards the point he fell and then plunged down.
The security guards rushed to help when they heard the loud sound of him hitting the ground and although initially he was still breathing heavily he died at the scene before the police and the medical team got there.
Phuket police will be notifying the Russian embassy about his death so that they could notify his relatives.
