14 cyanide deaths so far, more being investigated

CRIME Suppression Division (CSD) police said this afternoon (Apr. 30) that cyanide killings by suspect Ms. Sararat Rangsiwutthaporn, or Am, now total 14 with there being one survivor and investigation is continuing for possible additional victims, Thai Rath newspaper said.

Pol. Col. Anek Taosupap, CSD’s deputy chief, said so far police have asked the court to issue three arrest warrants for her, one each for the death of Ms. Siriporn Khanwong, or Koi, 33,  Pol. Maj. Nipa Saenchan, or Inspector Poo, and Mrs. Rosjarin (surname not mentioned), or Aunt Noi, who was a vegetable vendor.

Moreover 11 complaints have been filed with the latest victim to surface having been in Bangkok but her mother residing in Kamphaeng Phet province and evidence is being collected to ask the court to issue another arrest warrant.

Police also questioned a nurse only identified as Ms. Nok, who works at a hospital in the Thonburi area and is the suspect’s close friend and a relative of Siriporn only identified as Golf to find out about financial routes.

However so far no other suspects have been found linked to this case including the suspect’s former husband Pol. Lt. Col. Witoon Rangsiwutthaphon, a deputy superintendent for investigation at Suan Phueng police station.

Her ex-husband, with whom she was still living together, denied any knowledge of the killings but if more evidence is found he will be summoned again for questioning.

The suspect’s modus operandi was to win the victim’s trust before inviting them to go make merit and join her for a meal or drink coffee together, he said, and while there were many victims it was not necessary to have multiple accomplices.

Investigation is spread out in different localities with there being no time limit on concluding this case but 80% progress had been made on the lethal poisoning of Siriporn.

Regarding the testimony of the nurse, Nok, she had mentioned that the suspect used to discuss her own medical problems and the condition of heart patients with her. She refused to be interviewed by the press because she feared for her safety.
