Over 8.5 million foreign tourists so far, spending tops 355 billion baht

 

THAILAND welcomed a total of 8,596,452 foreign tourists during the first four months this year with total expenditure reaching 353.331 billion baht amid an increase in arrivals from Asean countries, East and South Asia plus Africa last week, Matichon newspaper said today (May 1).

Statistics revealed by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports show 567,361 foreign tourists came to Thailand last week (Apr. 24-30), or an average of 81,052  a day. This added up to 2,130,715 arrivals last month.

While more tourists from Asean countries, East and South Asia plus Africa came to Thailand last week, there was a seasonal decline from other regions.

The top five tourism source markets were Malaysia, China, India, Vietnam and South Korea collectively accounting for 53.3% of all foreign arrivals.

The biggest increase was from Vietnam at 43.51%, followed by China 42%, South Korea 19.44%, India 15.60% and Malaysia 12.17%.

The long May Day holidays in China, Malaysia and Vietnam led to 64,682 more foreign tourists arriving this week or an increase of 12.87%. Next week’s total will reach 520,000 with tourists mainly coming from Asean countries and East Asia.
