Tangmo Nida’s mum happy her ‘sons’ got suspended sentences

THE MOTHER of late actress Pataratida Patcharawirapong, or Tangmo Nida, who drowned in Chao Phraya river during a speedboat trip in February last year, said she is happy Nonthaburi Provincial Court today (May 10) suspended sentences it handed down on two key suspects in this case as they had been taking good care of her, Thai Rath newspaper said.

Mrs. Panida Siriyuttayothin said outside the court that she is pleased that both her “sons”, Mr. Tanupat Lerttaweewit, or Hi So Por, the speedboat owner, and Mr. Paiboon Srikanchananan, or Robert or Bird, the amateur skipper, had got justice while refusing to disclose details of a new compensation contract submitted to court today.

She added that both the suspects had been taking good care of her for a year and three months now and it is not that she is greedy or pleased that they are giving her compensation as she had earlier told the court that she did not want the money, only daughter’s return.

The court found Tanuphat, the first defendant, guilty as charged and sentenced him to five years and eight months in jail and fined him 128,000 baht. However, as the defendant intends to pay compensation to the victim, or the co-plaintiff, this was reduced to two years and nine months in jail and a fine of 64,000 baht. This reduced sentence was further suspended for three years with the defendant told to report for public service.

As for the second defendant, Paiboon, he was sentenced to four years and four months in jail and fined 108,000 baht. However, as he intends to pay compensation to the victim, this was reduced by half to two years and two months in jail and the fine slashed to 54,000 baht. This reduced sentence too was suspended for three years with the defendant told to report for public service.

Mr. Chaiwat Lomakul, Panida’s legal adviser, said the case against the first and second defendants is now over but the details of the new compensation contract cannot be disclosed.

Regarding the third to sixth defendants, this is a new case with the court to hold a hearing on June 29, he added.

The four other suspects in Tangmo Nida’s death are Ms. Wisapat Manomairat, or Sand; Ms. Idsarin Juthasuksawat, or Gatick, her manager; Mr. Nithat Keeratisuthisathorn, or Job; and Mr. M. Phim Thamtheerasri, their consultant.
