Fire at Excise Dept’s document storage room put out in 30 minutes

A FIRE broke out at the document storage room of the Excise Department this morning (June 5) and while it was extinguished within 30 minutes it is the second time a blaze has erupted in the six-storey building with the first one being in 2021, TV Channel 7 said today (June 5).

Pol. Lt. Thanapat Chumpol, deputy chief of Dusit police station, was alerted of this fire at 10.50 a.m.and quickly went there to inspect after coordinating with the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department’s Dusit office.

At the scene he saw thick black smoke pouring out of the building’s third floor near the staircase going up to the Bureau of Finance and Revenue Management’s office.

Firemen took half an hour to put out the blaze with the help of the building’s fire suppression system and as today is a public holiday there were no officials around.

Bystanders said they did not hear an alarm go off and only realised there was a fire in the building upon seeing thick smoke pouring out.

The Excise Department was previously hit with a fire in May 2021 that had erupted in a large archive room on the fourth floor with firemen taking more than an hour to put it out.
