Pita confident more senators are now backing him for PM

MOVE FORWARD LEADER PITA Limjaroenrat said today (June 30) more and more senators may already have decided to vote him for prime minister.

Pita was responding to speculation that many of the unelected senators will either abstain from voting or cast yea votes for any other candidate for prime minister in lieu of him despite the fact that the Move Forward has become the largest elected party.

The Move Forward leader has earlier pointed out that many senators may have doubts about the progressive party’s campaign-promised policy to amend the draconian lese majeste law, better known as Section 112, among others, and that he and his partisan colleagues have been giving them explanations and reaching mutual understanding about it.

Pita declined to tell whether the number of senators who may offer to lend him support for prime minister has so far been enough in addition to the MPs attached to the Move Forward-led coalition partners but confirmed more and more of the unelected legislators have already decided or been inclined to vote for him in a joint House/Senate session scheduled around the middle of July.

The Move Forward prime minister-designate has yet to get more endorsement from at least 64 non-coalition MPs and senators to make it adequate for his rise to power.

His comments apparently followed renewed concerns over the possibility that Palang Pracharth leader Prawit Wongsuwan might be named prime minister in rivalry against him, given overwhelming support from the senators, all of whom were handpicked by himself and de facto Ruam Thai Sang Chart boss/caretaker prime minister Prayut Chan-o-cha.
