BANGKOK Governor Chadchart Sittipunt is gearing up to announce that a plot of land opposite the Parliament is to be used as public assembly area on Thursday (July 13) when a joint House/Senate session will be voting on electing Move Forward leader Pita Limjaroenrat Thailand’s 30th prime minister, Naewna newspaper said today (July 10).
Chadchart said the approximately four to five rai land plot is being declared a rally point before that key day at the prompting of Metropolitan Police that a separate area be arranged near the Parliament so as to not affect the work within the complex.
This land plot can accommodate around 500-600 people and all are welcome regardless of which political side they support.
This arrangement will help manage likely rallies on that day more efficiently, he added.
“We are in the process of drafting a regulation, some officials will be going there to have a look. We were contacted by the Metropolitan Police to issue an announcement that this spot is usable for public gathering.
“The regulation has to be announced before July 13 to promote democratic expression. It is the duty of local authorities to arrange suitable areas – areas previously announced still remain and this will be an additional one for this purpose,” he said.
