Party-dissolution bid against proponents of Deep South autonomy aborted

By Thai Newsroom Reporters

THE CONSTITUTIONAL COURT today (Sep.13) lifted a petition in pursuit of the dissolution of three parties for allegedly seeking to undermine national sovereignty.

The petition earlier filed by a political activist in pursuit of the dissolution of the Move Forward, Prachachart and Fair Party was entirely waived under the Constitutional Court’s ruling that their respective views toward chronic Deep South turmoils were by no means relevant to any alleged intent to undermine democratic rule with the monarch as head of state.

That those parties had reportedly proposed autonomy for the predominantly-Muslim provinces of Pattani, Narathiwat and Yala in effort to restore peace in the turbulent Deep South was found irrelevant to any alleged design which might have been otherwise considered as detrimental to the country’s established rule, according to the court ruling.

The Prachachart has been earlier led by House Speaker Wan Muhamad Noor Matha who is invariably revered by those who agree to the proposed autonomous administration in the southern border areas long infested with separatist movement, human and drug trafficking and contraband smuggling.
