Woman who hurled insults at Prayut gets 6 months in jail

A WOMAN who jeered at former prime minister Prayut Chan-o-cha during his visit to Ratchaburi in March this year was today (Oct. 10) sentenced to six months and 10 days in jail and fined 1,000 baht but was later temporarily released on 30,000 baht bail, Naewna newspaper said late afternoon.

Ms. Wanthana Othong, or Aunt Na, 62, a former MP candidate for Pheu Chart Party, shaved her head in front of Ratchaburi Provincial Court after being freed on bail as a symbolic gesture of fighting for justice and people facing political persecution.

In handing down the verdict in this lawsuit where the defendant was charged with obstructing and disobeying officials and making a loud noise in public, the court said this is a serious case with the defendant not remorseful nor fearful of the law and others might follow suit.

On March 13, 2023, former prime minister Prayut and his entourage went to inspect a billion baht development project in Ban Pong district.

Just as his motorcade was about to enter the community hall to hear the details of the project, Wantana, who was standing in front of the parking lot, hurled insults at Prayut over his performance.

She was quickly taken to Ban Pong police station and charged.
