AN ONLINE GAMBLING network based in Phuket with a combined total of over one billion baht in betting cash allegedly circulated was raided by police yesterday (Nov.22).

The Department of Special Investigation police raided the online gambling den in a luxurious villa resort in Rawai subdistrict of the capital district of the southern island province and arrested a Thai national, only identified as Pakpum, 29 on charge of running the illegal business.

The online gambling network reportedly named UEFA had allegedly operated bettings on international soccer and computer games via dozens of its agents, either Thai or foreign mostly residing in Phuket, the police said.

More than one billion baht in betting cash had been circulated through the online gambling network and those agents, allegedly including some 50 foreign nationals who have reportedly disguised themselves as employees at varied workplaces throughout the tourist island.

An estimated 80 bank accounts had been opened to regularly transfer huge sums of gambling money to and from a large number of “customers” by the illicit agents who are yet to be brought to justice, the police said.
