IN A move to help resolve environmental problems BTS Group Holdings Plc announced today (Nov. 24) that it is gearing up to launch a new business with its partners to promote the use of E-motorcycles among bike taxi riders throughout Bangkok, Matichon newspaper said.
Mr. Keeree Kanjanapas, BTS Group Holdings Plc board chairman, said over the past week he has held talks with Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt on promoting the use of E-motorcycles at bike taxi stands as they are environmental friendly.
“BTS is happy to help because it is a good thing to create transportation that helps solve pollution problems,” Keeree said.
In expanding into EV business BTS Group is joining Winnonie Co. Ltd. (Winnonie), a startup of the Bangchak group of companies, that is unveiling E-motorcycle hire-purchase for bike taxi riders who operate within the vicinity of BTS stations as well as other related operations.
BTS Group intends to get all motorcycle taxi riders at around 5,000 stands across Bangkok, totalling around 80,000 riders, to switch to E-bikes for which special hire-purchase rates will be offered.
Additionally there will be electric charging points beneath all BTS stations throughout Bangkok.
In the first phase approximately 300 E-motorcycles are expected to be in service early 2024. Aside from getting good hire-purchase rates bike taxi riders will also be offered other after-sales services such as maintenance and consultation.
